How Long Continuous Video With Rx10 Iv
Does the RX10 IV overheat doing 4K video like the RX100?
Does the RX10 IV overheat doing 4K video like the RX100?
Nov 13, 2017
Was curious if anyone could confirm that the RX10 IV does NOT overheat after 4-5 minutes of recording continuous 4K video. I have this problem with my RX100 IV and I'm considering adding the RX10 IV to my collection. I would like to be able to record longer (maybe 15-20 minute) clips without overheating.
Thanks

I believe I read an early test report with very long videos and no heating. Finding it again would be difficult at the least.
This site https://fstoppers.com/originals/first-hands-impressions-sony-rx10-iv-all-one-bridge-camera-24-fps-stills-196137 says:
"Video shooters should know that the RX10 IV is also capable of 29 minute long 4K 30 fps video, 1080p 60 fps, and Slow Motion HFR recording of 240, 480, and 960 fps."
I doubt heating will be an issue due to the mass of the camera (vs. an RX100).

It does not. I recorded 4 hours worth of 29:59 minute clips, setting a timer for when I had to be ready to restart it.
Room Temp, say 73F.
This was with an external power supply and battery in the camera.

There's no comparison between the 2 cameras because the larger body of the RX10iv dissipates heat much better than the tiny RX100iv. My RX10iii has never overheated under any circumstances shooting video and stills.

Does this mean that it's possible to record continuously over several hours with this camera? I'm considering of buying RX10 IV, but I don't know if there's a recording limit (like 30 min).

There is a 29min 59sec cut-off on video but you can stream 4K to an external recorder indefinitely.
